It doesn’t feel that long ago that it was icy and cold outside. I can clearly remember being all bundled up thinking to myself that I couldn’t WAIT for it to warm up and live in my shorts and sandals.  It’ll be July 4th when this post goes up and I can’t believe the summer is in full swing. The weather in Asheville has been the exact opposite of the winter months. It has been HOT-like let’s all wear a wet blanket in a steam room HOT.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still very enjoyable. I’ve taken my laptop out on the porch for many work sessions lately to soak in the outside world while still being productive. I love starting my day out on the patio with my laptop and coffee. The mornings here are still somewhat crisp, making it the perfect time to be outside before it gets too hot.

I’ve been itching to do some outdoor summer things…  I want to go hiking, have a picnic, go tubing down the river and go to a few baseball games!

Summer always feels like a time to take things a bit slower. More people are out vacationing and enjoying pools and beaches. I’ve noticed that no matter what time of the year it is, I seem to have to remind myself that it’s okay to slow down. But the warm weather of summer always helps me to step away and take advantage of the sunshine.

I have a few fun plans on the horizon. I’m heading to Portland Maine and Acadia National Park in a few weeks. That will be a nice break from work and a place I’ve never experienced before. I’m really looking forward to checking out more of the East Coast and see what beauty it has to offer. In late August, Steve and I will be going home to Wisconsin to see friends and family. We will be bringing the dogs with us which make this trip even more exciting!

I want to be intentional about slowing down this Summer with my day-to-day work schedule, projects and other business-focused areas. I have a full project pipeline in my freelance business, but with a little time management, I’m hoping to work shorter days so I can get outside and be present with nature.

What are your Summer plans? Will you be slowing down? Comment below. =)

“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds.” – Regina Brett
