This past week I binged the audiobook You are a Badass- How to Stop Doubting your Greatness and Starting Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sicero. It was inspiring, funny and full of powerful ideas. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an extra boost of motivation. This book sparked the idea for this post which is all about getting rid of those negative subconscious thoughts swirling around in all our heads.

Everyone at some point or another doubt themselves. It’s natural to think you are not worthy, not good at something, or just not meant to have the belongings or lifestyle that other people have.

The problem with this mindset is that it is holding us back from achieving what we really desire in life. That, and it’s straight up annoying to feel that you are less than adequate.

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve put on a positive front when deep down I’m feeling nervous or negative about myself, and how things might turn out. This entire journey of building a business has been filled with moments of self-doubt.

In the book You are a Badass, the author talks about how getting rid of these subconscious beliefs can be like going through a detox at first. Basically, it will get worse before it gets better. Changing your mindset will be uncomfortable and feel really weird.

I want to learn to channel these negative beliefs into something positive and productive. These are the strategies I’ll be trying out:

#1- Be aware of negative thoughts. I think this is step 1 when making any type of change. I want to take note of the time that I feel self-doubt so I can move past it quickly.

#2- Shift thinking to the positive. Even in a bad situation, I want to look at the bright side. Not only that but realize most “bad” things that happen are not a big deal.

3#- Embrace my greatness. Thinking you are great is not something to be ashamed of. We are all great! The sooner we realize that the better.

Even in this short amount of time, I’ve already realized that I have negative thoughts way more often than I originally thought. I don’t expect for this to completely rid my mind of anything negative, but I think it will help the frequency and intensity.

If you find yourself caught up in negative thoughts, give these ideas a try.  We can all be feeling great about ourselves and one step closer to living an awesome life.
